The MDGs have been a fundamental framework for global development. A clear agenda, with measurable goals and targets, and a common vision have been crucial for this success. There is now an expectation around the world that sooner, rather than later, all these goals can and must be achieved.

Sustainable development is not an option! It is the only path that allows all of humanity to share a decent life on this, one planet. Rio+20 gives our generation the opportunity to choose this path.

The resolution is not perfect, but it is a compromise that can be accepted by all UN members, so Chin a hopes it can be adopted.

Controlling tobacco is a long-term, difficult and complicated public health task, it is also a social and economic issue that needs a strong policy.

Currently only the Unites States is against the new resolution, which is actually the best possible compromise among UN members and reflects a fragile balance of all members' concerns.
